Damascus roots

The Al-Baalbaki story in trade and building materials begins in 1955, when the late Haj Faiz Rushdi Al-Baalbaki founded the Al-Baalbaki Building Materials Company in Damascus and laid the foundation of a business that has continued across generations.

Haj Faiz Rushdi Al-Baalbaki came from the Baalbaki family, one of the old Damascene families with a known place in the city's commercial and economic life. His father, the founding grandfather Rushdi Al-Baalbaki, was among the founders of the Damascus Chamber of Commerce and contributed to establishing Al-Mouwasat Charity Hospital, among other Damascus institutions.

Milestones

  1. 1955

    Al-Baalbaki Building Materials is founded

From the start, the company imported and traded building materials, ceramics, tiles, heating systems and sanitary fittings, and built trading relationships with leading European manufacturers, among them:

  2. Later decades

    Holding on through change

As Syria went through economic and political change in the decades that followed, private trade faced successive periods of restriction, and much of the company's activity stopped or slowed at different times.

  3. 1986

    Damask Rose: the second generation

His son Mohammad Faiz Al-Baalbaki carried the family's work forward by founding Damask Rose (Al-Warda Al-Dimashqiya), widening it from building materials into a fuller offer: ceramics, sanitary ware, finishing materials, décor and high-end architectural solutions.

  4. Expansion
